There’s a reason the series is so beloved. I will say, however, if you’re a first-timer taking on these games, it’s worth the ride to not rush through things. Things like auto-battle, UI updates, and fast-forwarding will help speed up the process for those replaying the games. Other updates to gameplay will be familiar if you’ve played a classic Final Fantasy game via a port. There are also tweaks to the original soundtracks, which would maybe cause alarm, if not for the involvement of original composer Nobuo Uematsu. As the title mentions, pixel graphics are updated to look HD, but not in the 2.5D style. The collection will bring Final Fantasy I – VI to the Nintendo and Sony consoles with a slew of updates. Square Enix announced via Twitter that the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection is coming to PS4 and Switch on April 19th.

There’s a fun little movement happening in the JRPG world that returns players to the days of pixel art.
